Now, we’re looking for an enthusiastic and supportive volunteer to join our Scotland Programme Team as Lead for 4–10 and Performing Arts.

About the role

As Lead, you’ll play an important role in supporting and developing the programme for our youngest sections – Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs – while also championing performing arts opportunities across Scotland.

You’ll work alongside our Pipe Band and provide national support to Gang Shows, helping Regions and Districts deliver fun, inclusive and age-appropriate opportunities for young people.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about young people, creativity, performing arts and volunteer development, and who wants to make a positive difference across Scotland.

In the role, you will:

  • Line manage each of your teams to ensure a fun, inclusive and age-appropriate programme for Squirrel, Beaver and Cub Scouts that is consistent across Scotland.
  • Champion the development of performing arts opportunities across Scotland, continuing to support the development of our PipeBand and providing national support to Gangshows across Scotland.
  • Identify, develop and share examples of best practice from across Scotland to improve programme opportunities.
  • Support the development of programme resources linked to creativity and the arts.
  • Encourage collaboration between Regions to deliver local, regional and national opportunities across our younger sections.
  • Ensure programme delivery reflects Scout values and policies, whilst being accessible to all young people.
  • Work with the wider Scotland Programme Team to support programme innovation and development.
  • Support volunteer recruitment, retention and development within the 4-10 programme area.
  • Maintain awareness of trends, opportunities and community partnerships relevant to performing arts and younger age sections

About you

We’re looking for someone who can inspire people, build strong relationships and bring enthusiasm and creativity to the role.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to inspire, motivate and support volunteers.
  • Experience of programme development or delivery with young people.
  • A passion for creativity, performing arts and youth development.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across teams and Regions.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • The ability to deliver agreed outcomes within deadlines.
  • An approachable, supportive and inclusive manner.
  • The time to occasionally support evening and weekend activities.
