Adventure Abroad: 1st Monifieth Squirrels Take on LanzaJam Jamborette

This April, members of the 1st Monifieth (11th Angus) Scout Group made memories that will last a lifetime at the LanzaJam Jamborette in sunny Lanzarote. Organised by British Scouting Overseas, the event brought together more than 100 Scouts and volunteers from across the globe – and for the first time, two adventurous Squirrels joined the fun!
With the support of their carers, the young Squirrels camped alongside the older sections, embracing the full Scouting experience. Their courage and curiosity were on full display, proving that age is no barrier to adventure.
And to top it all off? One Squirrel celebrated a birthday at camp – complete with the Spanish rendition of “Happy Birthday”: ¡Cumpleaños feliz!
🏕️ Challenges Tackled
Scouting abroad comes with its fair share of challenges – and these young campers took them on with determination and spirit:
- Camping right on the beach
- Staying safe under the Lanzarote sun
- Keeping hydrated and maintaining sunscreen
- Relocating mid-camp to Molino de Yaiza due to Storm Olivier

👏 A Huge Achievement
It was a fantastic showcase of what Scouting is all about – inclusivity, adventure, resilience, and fun. A massive well done to the Squirrels, leaders, carers, and volunteers who made it happen.
