SUMMARY:Nights Away Conference
DESCRIPTION:Scouts Scotland is running an event to bring together all night’s away assessors in Scotland. The purpose of the event is to ensure everyone understands the role and how the process will work post-transformation. There will be an opportunity to share your experience and help to inform what a night’s away assessment and renewal looks like in Scotland. It is important to ensure there is a consistent approach to assessments regardless of which district or region the applicant is from. \nTo ensure everyone has the chance to share their thoughts and opinions\, two different events are being offered. The exact venues are to be confirmed\, but the first events will take place on \n\n18th January held in Stirling\n19th January in Moray\n\nIt would be great if all current and aspiring night’s away assessors could participate in one of these events. \nPlease email pamela.walls@scouts.scot to secure your place and indicate which day you are able to attend. Further details about the event will be sent out in due course.

SUMMARY:ERCA Generic Rescuer
DESCRIPTION:The ERCA Generic Rescuer qualification is aimed at instructors who are already ERCA qualified (either for Adventure Park or Traditional Ropes Course) who as a designated rescuer need to be able to rescue a customer or member of staff who is stuck at height. \nThis course covers the rescue and recovery to the ground of participants or staff who are in need of rescue at height on any type of ropes course. For example: a member of staff becoming stuck during an operational check.\nHowever\, the aim of the course is to develop skills that can be used to avoid situations that could necessitate a rescue in the first place.\nMuch time is spent covering risk minimising options that enable those stuck at height to be lowered to the ground without the need for a complex rescue. The course develops the ability to assess the operations on site\, consider the alternatives to reduce the risk of requiring a rescue\, and choose the equipment and techniques most appropriate for a simple effective rescue.\nERCA Instructor qualifications are recognised at many ropes courses throughout the UK\, Europe and other countries across the world. This course is fully compliant with EN15567 Part 2. \nTheoretical course content:\n•Norms and ERCA-Standards\n•Risk assessment\n•Emergency plans\n•Environmental influences\n•Emotional wellbeing of users \nPractical course content:\n•Self-belay and accessing techniques\n•Lowering of users (Unaccompanied/Passive Rescue)\n•Evacuation of users \nCOURSE ASSESSMENT and OUTCOMES\nUpon passing the course candidates will be issued with the ERCA certificate for Generic Rescuer Award. This certificate is valid for three years.\nTo re-validate the award\, candidates must either attend another ERCA course\, or a 1-day refresher. Revalidation can be at any time within the three years\, or within a one-year grace period after the certificate validity expires.\nIn the unfortunate event of a candidate failing to meet the standard required during the summary assessment\, the trainer will discuss what they need to improve on and how to proceed. They are permitted two further attempts at re-assessment on separate occasions before they would have to retake the full training element of the course. Appeal procedures are in place and details will be provided and can also found on the ERCA website. \nCOURSE PRE-REQUISITES\n•Participants must be of a minimum age of 18 years old\n•Hold a valid First Aid certificate\n•Physically fit enough to take part in a ropes course activity\n•Capable of working at height\n•Must hold either the ERCA Adventure Park Instructor or ERCA Traditional Ropes Course Instructor Qualification \nWHAT’S INCLUDED?\n•Instruction/Coaching\n•Course booklet\n•Equipment hire for the two days\n•ERCA registration & pdf certificate on successful completion \nFull board accommodation and meals throughout the course are available for an additional cost. Book here. \nKIT LIST – WHAT PARTICIPANTS NEED TO BRING\n•Exceptionally warm clothes including a jacket\, hat and gloves\n•Full waterproofs\n•Boots/trainers\n•Working gloves\n•You will need plenty of food and drink to sustain you\n•Sunblock \nPrivate closed courses can be booked to run anywhere in the UK or internationally.\nPlease contact us to discuss to discuss your requirements including possible dates and fees.
