Making sure your learning is up to date

Thank you to all our volunteers who have accessed their new learning account. We have some learning deadlines coming up which will affect your membership and it’s important you complete any outstanding learning before they expire.
Volunteers who were members prior to the new system in November 2024
All volunteers, who were members prior to the launch of the new membership system in November require to update their Safety training by 14 July 2025.
If you have not completed the new Safety learning please do so as soon as possible. It takes around 45 – 60 minutes to complete and can be done in bite sized chunks, so you don’t need to do it all in one go.
In line with our new teams approach to Scouting Growing Roots learning has replaced Getting Started. Growing Roots modules are different to Getting Started and some volunteers who were members prior to change over in November will require to do some additional learning.
The additional learning for those working with young people may include Creating Inclusion and Creating a Great Programme. If you manage other volunteers e.g. group lead volunteer (not section team leaders) you may be required to complete Leading Scout Volunteers and those who are trustees may require Being a Scout Trustee.
To find out if you require to complete any modules you will need to log into your learning account – this will show any elements of learning which need to be completed and a date by which they must be completed – likely to be mid May 2025.
New volunteers who have joined since the launch of the new membership system
Volunteers who have become members since the new system have 30 days from their date of joining to complete both Safety and Safeguarding training.
New volunteers will also have to complete other Growing Roots modules within 6 months of becoming members. Growing Roots includes Creating Inclusion, Data Protection for Scouts and Who we are and What We Do. If you are working with young people you may also have to complete Delivering a Great Programme. Team leads (not those who lead a young section) will also require Leading Scout Volunteers.
Trustees will require to complete Being a Trustee in Scouts.
