Dig into the Heritage Team

Tucked away in two unassuming portacabins near the Fordell store at Scout Adventures Fordell Firs lies a hidden treasure trove of Scouting history. Over the past few years, a dedicated team has been hard at work, curating and preserving a national archive of Scouting in Scotland. This growing collection is more than just a walk down memory lane – it’s a celebration of the journey that Scottish Scouting has taken over the past century and a quarter.

The archive is built upon a diverse and fascinating assortment of materials: books, magazines, newspaper cuttings, photographs, and all kinds of memorabilia that together weave the rich story of Scouting in Scotland. From pre-1907 to the present day, these items offer a unique glimpse into how the movement has evolved, the adventures that have been undertaken, and the lives that have been shaped by Scouting.

Over the coming months, we will be delving deeper into this collection, sharing insights into some of the remarkable finds, and exploring how members of the Scouting community can play a role in preserving this important history. There is so much to uncover, and the dedicated core group of individuals leading this effort are keen to involve more people in safeguarding this legacy for future generations.
