I have been involved with Scouts since my son joined Beavers as Group Scout Treasurer for 12th West Lothian Scouts. I became West Lothian District Chair in October 2022 working with great volunteers to ensure that Scouting in West Lothian flourishes. In 2021 I received the Chief Scout's Commendation for Good Service. My other volunteering roles are associated with Girlguiding where I'm still am an accredited Trainer and have undertaken a variety of roles including Leader, District Commissioner to Lead Volunteers roles at Scottish and UK level in topics such as Finance & General Purposes Committees, Technology and Compliance mainly, I am half-way through my term of office on the European Regional Committee of WAGGGS and work closely with the European WOSM Committee members. I have over 40 years' experience in the Finance sector working for NatWest Group plc where I have held roles such as Operations Manager, Controls and Business Finance Manager within the Risk Function, HR Consultant and Pay Lead and latterly as the Change, Innovation and Technology Lead and Governance Manger within our Legal Governance & Regulatory Affairs Function.

I have more than 40 years’ service in Scouts as an adult volunteer in roles including Section Leader (Scouts and Venture Scouts), International Commissioner, Scout Section Commissioner, District Commissioner and Area Commissioner. I was the first Regional Chair in South East Region, and for the last 8 years have been Treasurer and a Trustee of Scouts Scotland. I have also served six years as a Trustee of The Scout Association.

I’ve been involved in Guiding and Scouting since I was 7 years old, benefitting from the excellent experiences and friendships it can offer both young people and adult volunteers. I use and rely on my scouting leadership experience in my career as a financial services professional and am excited to have joined the Board to further the excellent work of this movement for the benefit of more young people in Scotland.

My Dad was a Queen’s Scout and part of the crew at an outdoor Scout centre in Surrey in the 1970s. As an only child he made friends for life through Scouting. As a parent, I encouraged my two sons into Scouting. Through the dedication of amazing volunteer leaders they have had access to new experiences, especially outdoors, and the opportunity to learn and develop different skills. Gradually, I became more involved, as a parent helper at camps and meetings and then as a Trustee for my local Scout Group. As a Board Trustee and Chair of the Business Committee I am keen to keep learning new skills and lend mine to make sure that all young people have access to what’s on offer through Scouting across Scotland. I have spent 26 years working for SSE plc and have particular expertise on regulatory policy, compliance and internal governance issues.

I joined Scouts when I was 14 and loved going to all the different camps around Scotland. In my time I have been a Venture Scout, Scout Leader, member of the Fordell Fellowship (running activities at weekends), and am currently a member of SSST (formerly SSAS). I was even a Cub leader in Canada for a few years, and received a commendation from Scouts Canada for my work on inclusivity. Through being a board trustee I hope to share the skills that I have learnt through Scouting and in my working life. This is my chance to give back to the movement and to assist other young people to grow and reach their potential. I have met a lot of my best friends through Scouting, and by pushing the movement forward, others will have the opportunity to experience that too. In my professional life, I have always worked in the service industry, with a current focus on operations, leadership and governance. I'm looking forward to working with the Strategy and Delivery Committee and the wider leadership team, to see what we can achieve together.

Scouting has been a lifelong passion of mine. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Cub Scout, Scout, and Venture Scout. One of my earliest memories as a Cub is my first camp at Fordell Firs, returning home excitedly singing campfire songs I'd just learnt. As a Scout, I relished the freedom of summer camps with friends and had the incredible opportunity to travel to Finland on a Venture Scout expedition. For the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of serving as a Cub Scout Section Team Leader, and it’s been rewarding to witness the positive impact Scouting has had on the children in our Pack. Having greatly benefited from the Scouting movement, I am passionate about supporting and promoting its goals in any way I can.

I have been a part of Scouting since I was a Beaver. I had a brilliant time through my entire time in Scouting and I look forward to help provide the same experience for the current and future Scouts. I am happy to be a part of the Board of Trustees and be part of making change for the current Scouts and the future of Scouting in Scotland.

I have been part of Scouting since I was a Beaver, and for the past 2 years I have been a Scout Lead for my local group. Having attended the World Scout Jamboree in Korea as a participant, Scouting grew into a lifetime passion giving me the inspiration to volunteer as an adult. It is the most rewarding thing I have done, as I have seen the impact it has had on the young people in my community. I am on the Trustee Board for my own group, and I am excited to learn and develop my skills in a wider sense to be on the Scout Scotland Trustee Board, and I am looking forwards to working with Strategy Committee to see what ideas we can bring to Scouting across Scotland and the positive impacts we can make.

I have been involved with scouting throughout my life and have a passion for the outdoors and the learning it can offer us. As a young boy Scouts played a key part in shaping who I am today. I am delighted to be a member of the Scout Scotland board and look forward to supporting Scouting go from strength to strength in Scotland. In my day job I work for the John Lewis Partnership as a Regional Manager, the oldest and biggest co-owned business in the UK.

I am honoured to serve as a Trustee of Scotland’s largest mixed, volunteer-led youth movement. My involvement in Scouting began in Lanarkshire in the late 1970s as a young member, progressing through Beavers, Cubs and Scouts before taking on leadership roles at both local and national levels. As a Trustee, I will provide senior leadership and governance oversight, supporting the 10,000 adult volunteers who deliver Scouting to 35,000 young people across Scotland. Professionally, I bring 30 years’ experience in policing, leading across complex and diverse communities under sustained public and organisational scrutiny. I have a strong track record of collaborative working, relationship-building and transparent leadership, approaching challenge with honesty and openness. By actively engaging subject-matter experts, I have ensured informed decision-making and authoritative reporting aligned to organisational strategy and long-term direction. Diversity and inclusion are fundamental to my values and leadership approach, grounded in fairness, integrity and respect. I am committed to inclusive engagement and continuous learning, valuing the breadth of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives that strengthen effective governance. I bring this experience, alongside energy, optimism and determination, to support the delivery of Scouting’s nine-year strategy.

I first experienced Scouting as a wee boy, and though it was for a short while, it helped me grow in confidence and curiosity. Today, volunteering with Scouts is one of my greatest passions. I believe Scouting cultivates kindness and resilience, qualities that strengthen our communities, and I am committed to creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued. My focus lies in growth, recruitment, promotion and youth development. Professionally I’m a solicitor specialising in energy and infrastructure, with a dedication to leadership and good governance. I’m excited to bring my legal expertise and Scouting insights to help more young people discover the lifelong friendships and personal growth Scouting has to offer.

Barry is the Chief Volunteer of Scotland, leading the Scouts Scotland Volunteer Team in developing Scouting across the country. With over 25 years of volunteer experience with Scouts, Barry has held various roles, including section, district, and national positions. For the past 15 years, Barry has focused on the Explorer Scout section, volunteering in both Edinburgh and Highland Perthshire. He strongly believes in the value of international Scouting and has attended jamborees, completed his explorer belt, and led international expeditions to Malaysia, Uganda, Nepal, and Cambodia. Barry has also served in national roles, including as a trustee on the Scouts Scotland Board, supporting the delivery of the first two Scottish youth conferences, and three years as a Scottish Depute Chief Commissioner with responsibility for Programme. In his professional life, Barry works as a Primary School Headteacher, leading two schools in rural Highland Perthshire.

I lead the Executive Leadership Team to provide direction and focus for our work in support of volunteers and make sure that we play a leading role across the charity sector for the development of skills for life for young people.
